It happened about 3:10 this morning at a 7-11 in the 5700 block of Columbia Road. Police say a 40-year-old woman working as a clerk was wounded and died later at Shock Trauma in Baltimore.
According to police, a man outside the store called 911 to report hearing a gunshot in the store. The caller then saw a masked man run from the store toward Route 108.
Authorities are withholding the dead woman's name until her family can be contacted.
Police are looking into whether the shooting was a result of an attempted armed robbery at the store.
